     1. Introduction

Automatic Boot Recovery (ABR) is a small utility that recovers
a PC from critical network errors or critical errors which
have another cause. Normally critical errors result in the
well known 'Abort, Retry or Fail' message and the PC stops
processing it's application. Automatic Boot Recovery (ABR)
recovers from these critical errors by rebooting the machine.
ABR can be a usefull addition to machine's in a Novell network
that are operator-less, like dial-in PC's, gateways and MHS
servers. ABR is DOS based and Novell specifiek, although it
can be used on stand-alone PC's as well.
Automatic Boot Recovery can also be used a s a command line
utility to check the existance of the IPX protocol stack or
the existance of the NetWare shell (NETX).

     2. Command line parameters

ABR Load the TSR portion of the program.

     ABR /Status Status information.

ABR /Dormant Sets the TSR in an inactive state. The TSR
remains in memory but takes no action when a
                    critical error occurs.

ABR /Awake Sets the TSR in its active state.

ABR /Unload Unloads the TSR portion of the program.

ABR /Ipx Tests for IPX. If the IPX protocol stack is not
                    available, the machine is rebooted.

ABR /Net Tests for the presence of the NetWare shell. If
the shell is not available, the machine is
                    rebooted.

     ABR /Help Help info.

     3. Example

The following is an example batch file that loads the NetWare
shell, Automatic Boot Recovery and a dial-in host program for
dial-in access to a local area network. The dial-in program is
the place where the batch file stops and waits for a remote
user to call in. When a valid remote user accesses the dial-in
host, the batch file continues and sets ABR in its /Dormant
state. Then the user is presented the FSLOGIN (Full Screen
Login) program to complete it's access to a Novell server.
Note that ABR is also used to check the loading of the NetWare
shell. When, for some reason the shell does not load, the
dial-in host is rebooted again until the network/server
     becomes availabe agian.
