             MAGAZINE ARTICLES ON NWO-RELATED TOPICS

Almost every time I have gone to the local Barnes & Noble during the
past few weeks I have come away with a magazine or two containing
articles of interest to us here on ACT. Regrettably, it doesn't look
like I'm going to have time to write a review of each of these, so
here's a collection of micro-reviews to just hit the highlights.

New Scientist
11 December 1993
(British)

Weird Weapons: conquering without killing

[see SUPERWEAP.TXT or ZIP on this BBS for a full file on this topic]

This article appears to have been based on the recent non-lethal
weapons conference, but the author could have learned more by
staying home and reading alt.conspiracy. The article makes much
of the secrecy surrounding these weapons, stating they are classified
"special access", higher than top secret. The article quotes John
Alexander as justifying this secrecy, and present Janet Morris and her
husband Chris as opponents of secrecy and critics of Los Alamos National
Labs, where ALexander works. They fail to mention that Morris and Alexander
were co-authors of The Warrior's Edge, a book on mind control techniques.
They fail to mention the psi-tech dimension of the non-lethal weapons
movement. And for all their concern over secrecy, they fail to inquire
into such fundamental issues as why we are seeing a recent explosion of
publically available information as to the existence of these technologies,
such as the Wall Street Journal article of a few months ago (which they
also fail to mention.)

There is an interesting mention of the Justice Department's ongoing
efffort to evaluate non-classified information on these technologies
for possible civilian law-enforcement use.

Flatland #10
(Catalog/Magazine)

Several good articles in this one, including interviews with Mark Lane
and Bo Gritz, as well as "An Incorrect Political Memoir" by Daniel
Brandt, publisher of the "NameBase" intelligence analysis database,
and one of the severest leftist critics of Chip Berlet. Includes
an interesting discussion of Berlet's attacks on Oliver Stone's JFK,
the controversy over leftist use of LaRouche-derived research material,
and much discussion of the Fletcher Prouty controversy, the Spotlight, etc.
This article was originally from The Lobster #24, December 1992.

Daniel Brandt's address is given as:

Public Information Research
P.O. Box 5199
Arlington, VA 22205
Phone: (703)241-5437
MCImail: DBRANDT 304-8285

The Gritz interview is interesting, presenting a much calmer and saner
Bo Gritz than one sees in his speeches or might infer from the attacks
of his critics. Topics include CIA dope trafficking, experiences in
Southeast Asia, and general oberrvations on the intelligence community.

The Lane Interview, by Kenn Thomas of Steamshovel Magazine, focusses on
his latest book, Murder in Memphis (co-authored with Dick Gregory), relating
to the assination of Martin Luther King Jr.

Also of some interest is a short article titled "Wackenhut reports
record revenues and net income". Long-time alt.conspiracy readers
will recognize Wackenhut as the private security agencey with
*extensive* spook connections which was allegedly part of the "Octopus"
conspiracy which Danny Casolaro was investigating at the time of his
unexplained death.

If there is a Barnes & Noble or other source of alternative magazines
near you, you will probably want to get this issue. ($4.00)

Anti-Shyster Vol 2, No. 4

I haven't been too interested in the alternative legal strategies
which are this magazine's usual mainstay, but an article in the
current issue caught my interest. Called Invasion USA, it is a
discussion of disinformation, using as a case study the October
1992 invasion hoax. Written by editor and publisher Alfred Adask,
it contains some penetrating observations on the role of truth in
disinformtion. Interestingly, the version of the October Invasion
story Adask is familiar with appears to be minus the extraterrestrial
connection. If any Anti-Shyster reader out there would be moved to
type or scan the article, or even just the excellent introduction,
it would be a real contribution here. ALso, if anybody knows a
way to contact Anti-Shyster by email, I would *really* like to send
Adask a copy of the "alien" October Invasion document to aid in
his disinformation research.

Alternative Press Review
Winter 1994
$3.95

The interesting thing here is another Daniel Brandt article,
Clinton, Quigley and Conspiracy. This is reprinted from Vol 1, #1
of NameBase Newsline, a free newsletter for users of the
NameBase database. As well as discussing Quigley's work, and its
place in conspiracy research, there is also respectful mention of
various conspiracy theorists across the political spectrum including
Carl Oglesby, Cleon Skousen, Lyndon LaRouche and Pat Robertson.
Robertson's book "The New World Order" comes in for several paragraphs
of discussion.

Quotable quote:

"I don't believe that right-wing globalist conspiracy theories
in general, or LaRouche's theories in particular, can be dismissed
by claiming that they are disguised anti-Semitism - thet is to
say code-word versions of the old international Jewish banking
conspiracies. While there is some anti-Semitism on the right, it
is no longer the driving force it might have once been. Most
right-wing theories are more sophisticated than Berlet, King,
or the ADL are ready to believe."
