                               Win Disc 1.10

                           (C) 1993 PDG Software

 ----------------------------------------------------------------------------

 Release Notes:

Version 1.10 Corrects the following problems: (hopefully)

Speed Improvement - Users of older, single speed CD-ROM drives complained of
Win Disc slowing down the system. I have traced this problem
to some extra API calls made during the update procedure that
is called once every second. I have reduced the number of
calls made by 60%, so in theory, things should speed up
                       quite a bit now!

No disc problems - Problems occurred when no disc was
in the drive. It seems at this time,
                       that this has been corrected.

Error Messages - I have traced several of the error
codes returned by the Windows Multimedia
System, and replaced the generic "Could not
initialize CD-ROM drive" message with more
messages more descriptive of the problem. Also,
if the above message is received, it is accompanied
by the error number returned to Win Disc. This
should help in pinpointing any problems you have.
(just tell me the error, and I'll try to locate it!)

 Version 1.02 fixes:

   CD-Recognition - Some CDs were mis-identified.
Shuffle Button - Some users were experiencing problems
                       with shuffle mode.
Large/Small Fonts - Win Disc now automatically resizes itself
so it can display all information, whether
you are using large or small fonts.
Screen Updates - I have added a little code, so the display
only updates if information has changed.
This will help speed things up when
Win Disc is running in the background.
Icon - Besides a new icon, Version 1.02 also
allows you to keep Win Disc as the
topmost window, so you never lose it!

 Version 1.01 fixes:

Crashes - Some users, particulary those with CD-ROM drives
using caddies got errors when pressing the eject
button while no caddy was inserted. This problem
has been taken care of with a MCI_GETDEVCAPS_CAN_EJECT
                       call at program startup.

 ============================================================================

 Installation:

Installing Win Disc is easy. Just stick the .EXE file in a directory,
and put the file BWCC.DLL in your WINDOWS\SYSTEM directory. In theory,
everything should be ready to go!

 ============================================================================

 Features:

Win Disc is a straightforward, easy to use, powerful audio cd player
for Windows 3.1 or later. (There is a Windows NT version coming soon!)
Win Disc allows normal, programmed, and shuffled play modes. It also
has a cd recognition feature, which allows you to enter the name of the
cd, as well as song titles, and have Win Disc "recognize" it the next
time the disc is inserted. There are many other features, but you'll
discover them while using the program.

 ============================================================================

 Directions:

Just run it. Win Disc is really easy to use. A chimp with half his brain
tied behind his back (or even Bill Clinton) could use this program.

About Win Disc / Contacting the author

Win Disc was written mainly because the author (me) was too lazy
(or cheap) to register any of the other audio cd players out there.
Actually, that's not true. The only one I had thought of registering
was waaay overpriced, so I said skip it. Most of the programs out there
didn't have the options I wanted, so I decided to write my own. What
   an experience!

In case you were wondering, Win Disc was written entirely in Borland
   Pascal, version 7.0 for Windows.

As with any good product, this is not the final version of Win Disc.
There are bound to be problems that turn up with it, so I will be
releasing updates periodically. Look for them on a bbs near you!

This leads me to the next point...

If you have a problem, complaint, question, or comment about Win Disc,
feel free to tell me! If you're contacting me about a problem, be sure
to include your make & model of computer, cd-rom drive, sound card,
operating system & version, as well as a complete description of
what's wrong. Your phone number and return address would be helpful,
too. I can be reached at the following e-mail addresses:

America Online: PDG Soft <or> Schwans
   Internet : pdgsoft@aol.com <or> schwans@aol.com
   FidoNet : greg_palmer@f7956.n2210.z1.fidonet.org

If you don't have access to internet, America Online, or Fidonet,
just send me a letter (hopefully along with your registration!)
   to the following address:

                            Rockford, IL 61108

Either way, I'll be sure to get back to you as soon as humanly possible.

 Registration:

Well, sooner or later, you knew it would come to this, didn't you? Now's
the time I beg for money, and tell you how I'm a poor college student,
trying <sob> to pay <sob> tuition, etc...

Enough of that! Here's the plan, plain and simple. If you register this
program before January 1, 1994, it will cost you $15.00. Not a bad deal!
After January 1, 1994, however, the price will be increased to $20.00.
Still not too expensive, but it should be a good reason for you to go
out and register as soon as possible.

Please be advised that this version of Win Disc will become somewhat
crippled as of January 1. I hate to have to do that (I know it bothers
me when I download crippled programs), but I have to ensure that people
will register, and not just keep using the program without paying for it.
After this time, the cd recognition feture will become unusable, and
Win Disc will only recognize the first 5 tracks of any CD.

Never fear, though! You only need to register once. You will receive a
key file in the mail (or some other way) which will unlock this and
all future versions of Win Disc. Think about that $15.00 for a lifetime
of cool cd-players! Wow! What a bargain!

All registrations should be done with money orders or personal checks.

Make all checks payable to GREG PALMER.

Please use the order form below when registering Win Disc.
